Why do I do this work?
Listening to the body for over twenty-five years.
For over twenty-five years, I worked as a remedial massage therapist. I spent my days feeling where people were holding, bracing, and guarding in their bodies. I could see the unconscious protection people carried in their shoulders, their breath, and their posture, but I also saw that physical massage—while helpful—often provided only a temporary release. The "why" behind the bracing remained untouched.
When therapy finally landed.
My own path changed when I sat across from a somatic therapist for the first time. I remember thinking, “Therapy can be like this?” Suddenly, things just landed. For the first time, I wasn't just trying to "fix" my thoughts or force myself to stop certain behaviors. I was actually noticing changes from the inside out. It wasn't about trying harder; it was about feeling differently. That experience was so profound that I knew immediately this was how I wanted to support others. I began my Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy with a singular focus: bridging the gap between our physical experiences and our emotional lives.
A relational path to settling in the present.
Because of my background, I listen to you with more than just my ears. I’m attentive to the way your nervous system is communicating—the "clever" ways your body has learned to protect you over the years.
In our sessions, you don’t have to "think" your way out of your problems. We work together to understand the protective role your body has taken on, and we use gentle, specialised modalities like Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Havening to help that protection soften.
My goal is to help you reach that same realization I had: that healing doesn't have to be a constant struggle of will. It can be a process of finally feeling safe enough to settle into the present.
What do I get up to when I’m not in therapist mode?
Mostly hanging out with my wife and two young boys, bushwalking, getting my feet in the soil whilst gardening, and laughing a lot!
I love walking, cycling, and looking for new adventures and challenges. I’m passionate about natural health, nutrition, meditation, and finding work-life balance. Personal development is the thing that lights my fire the most. So I feel incredibly grateful that I can incorporate this into my work.
